Thirukkural Week 6

Early in my journey as a speaker, I believed that good communication was all about how well we speak. I focused on clear thoughts, strong words, and confident delivery.
Experience slowly taught me otherwise.
Some of the most impactful conversations I have had were with people who spoke very little but listened with complete attention. Their responses were thoughtful. Their words carried weight. And when they finally spoke, people listened.
That shift in understanding brings me to this Kural by Thiruvalluvar:
𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐊𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐈 𝐇𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐖𝐞𝐞𝐤 - 𝐖𝐞𝐞𝐤 6
நுணங்கிய கேள்விய ரல்லார் வணங்கிய
வாயின ராதல் அரிது.
Those who do not possess refined listening skills can rarely speak in a way that earns respect.

True communication begins much before we open our mouths. It begins with listening and listening with curiosity, patience, and humility.
When listening is shallow, words lose grace.
When listening is deep, even simple words command respect.
In speaking, leadership, and everyday conversations, this lesson remains timeless.
How we listen decides how our words will be received.
