There’s something magical about crochet — one moment you’re holding a ball of yarn, and the next you’re holding a tiny creature that makes your heart melt.
Recently, I decided to try making a snow baby hedgehog with white chenille yarn for its body and white eyelash yarn for its soft quills.
What happened next surprised me — not only was it the cutest hedgehog I’ve ever made, but it also took me less than 20 minutes.
Why White Chenille & Eyelash Yarn?
Chenille yarn is buttery-soft and perfect for making plump little amigurumi bodies. The white color gave my hedgehog a snowy winter look. The eyelash yarn, with its wispy strands, became the perfect “quills” — no pokes, just fluff!
Yarn:
White chenille yarn – body & face
White eyelash yarn – quills
Hook: 3 mm or 3.5 mm
Other: 5 mm safety eyes, black embroidery thread, stuffing, yarn needle
Body & Head (worked in one piece)
With white chenille yarn:
Round 1: MR, 4 sc (4)
Round 2: (inc, sc) ×2 (6)
Round 3: (inc, 2 sc) ×2 (8)
Round 4: (inc, 3 sc) ×2 (10)
Round 5: (sc, dec) ×3 + sc 1 (7) – start stuffing firmly
Round 6: dec around until closed (3–4 sts remain)FO, weave in end.
Quills (with eyelash yarn)
Attach eyelash yarn at the back of the head (around Round 4 area) and work surface slip stitches in a spiral until you reach the back. Alternatively, sew eyelash yarn randomly across the back for a fluffy, natural look.
Face Details
Eyes: Place safety eyes between Rounds 2 & 3, about 2–3 stitches apart.
Nose: Embroider a small black triangle on Round 1 tip.
Optional blush: Dab pink pastel or embroider with pink yarn.
Size
About 2–2.5 inches long — perfect as a keychain, desk buddy, or mini gift.
to do that next?
