Who knew a humble steamed bun could steal so many hearts?
Soft, squishy, and undeniably kawaii, this little amigurumi Steamed Bun has become one of my favorite quick projects. It’s the perfect desk buddy, a stress-reliever you can squish, or a quirky keychain charm. And guess what? You can make it in under an hour using chunky chenille yarn!
Whether you're a beginner looking for an easy start or a pro crocheter wanting a satisfying make, this bun delivers the goods—without the calories.
🧶 What You'll Need:
Chenille yarn (white or off-white for a realistic steamed bun look)
4 mm hook (adjust according to yarn)
Safety eyes (I placed them between rounds 5 and 6, 6 stitches apart)
Embroidery thread for the mouth (optional, but highly recommended for max cuteness!)
Fiberfill stuffing
Yarn needle and scissors

Fasten off, and weave in the tail using your yarn needle to close the hole neatly.
💡 Pro Tips:
Want it even flatter? Try stopping at round 8 or 9 and adding a few extra sc-only rounds in between.
Optional: Flip the work before stuffing.
For a mochi look, use a pastel yarn like pink or mint and embroider a little “blush” below the eyes.
Use a small "v" or "w" shape for the mouth with black embroidery floss or yarn to give it that anime-style expression.
